Hello,
This week testing begins with three tests. Language is scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday and the first part of math on Friday. Next week, the second part of math is Tuesday and science is Wednesday and Thursday.
Students will have a light fruit/protein snack in class before testing begins. Thanks Mrs. Nigh and parents for making this happen. The kids love it and hate to see testing end. It just helps them relax and feel good. Of course they should eat breakfast before coming to school and get a good night's sleep!! This will be a light homework week, but also a very good time to read nightly and start thinking about the final book report.
This week in Room 10:
1. Please complete and return the permission slip for our end-of-the year trip to the Santa Cruz Boardwalk.
2. Students have the details for the "How To" book report. There are a few things they can't make (they have that short list), but there are lots of books in the public library. with great ideas. They will need to show the book when they give their class presentation. The due date is May 15 for the projects and presentation dates will be the following week.
3. After testing in May we will be making a special project that requires each student to bring in fabric and $5 to cover supplies. Students need EITHER a pre-cut piece of fabric called a "Fat Quarter" or a 1/2 yard of cotton or cotton blend. Beverly's is a good place to get either.
4. The classroom needs tissues and Pete needs some candies. Thanks!
Homework: Read nightly, study science vocab, review all 5o states and capitals for the "big" geography test after testing.
Monday:
Grammar - pages 80/81
Math - pages 8-5/8-6, even only
Tuesday:

Wednesday:

Thursday:

This week we will continue with a few more art projects/lessons. Students are having a great time creating some amazing pictures. They will definitely be on display at Open House.
Best regards,
Melanie Jaynes

Week of April 14-18, 2008
Hello,
This week begins the final reading theme. Only three more stories, spelling lists, and grammar lessons for the year! Our ice cream party last Friday to celebrate great test scores in reading was well deserved and the perfect way to end the week. Proud of my students for a job well done!
This week, in addition to reading My Brother Sam is Dead, we're going to start watching the video, "1776", which is based on the Tony Award Broadway musical about the American Revolution. Through song and dance, the play answers the very same questions students are reading about in social studies.
What's happening this week in Room 10:
1. Just a reminder. The last day for Boardwalk money is Wednesday. Students can buy a day pass when we attend, but they won't get this discount price.
2. ABC Book is due on Wednesday.
3. Science test on Thursday.
4. Book report due on Friday.
5. No News Teams this week.
