Week of January 15-18, 2008

Hello,

Happy New Year to everyone and welcome back.

What's happening this week in Room 10:
This week we will finish reading Sign of the Beaver and watch the video of the book to compare the story elements, with emphasis on the development of the characters.

Also this week I will be going over the next book report, "Everyone's A Critic". The original due date was February 8, but I'm changing the date to February 5 so we'll have enough time for everyone to present their book review to the class during the week.

We'll be watching a powerful video about civil rights on Friday to understand the importance of next Monday's holiday honoring Martin Luther King Jr.

Homework:
Tuesday:
Math - lessons 81 and 82, even only
Spelling - pages 203/204
Grammar - pages 44/45

Wednesday:
Math- lessons 83 and 84, even only
Spelling - pages 205/206
Grammar - pages 75, 77, and 78

Thursday:
Math - lesson 85, all
Read Aloud
Study for spelling test

Dates to remember:
1. The two required science projects (with writing) assigned before the winter break are due on January 31.

2. Please complete and return the permission slip for our field trip to NWS on February 15. Please let me know if you can drive to Monterey.

3. Mark your calendars for another field trip in February. We're going to hear the Santa Cruz County Symphony on February 25. More details to follow.

4. Remember the date change for the next book report. Presentations will begin on February 5. Students will be assigned a date the week before.

5. NO SCHOOL ON MONDAY, JANUARY 21.
