Week of May 27-30, 2008

Hello,

It was wonderful seeing everyone at Open House. The children were so proud to share their talents and accomplishments from this year in 5th grade. I love the evening and want to thank you for all the positive comments.

This week in Room 10 and important information:

1. White T shirts are due by this Friday, May 30. I also need some wire hangers.

2. We're going to be tie dying on Monday, June 2. I'll need 2-4 parents for an hour from 10:30-11:30 to help with the activity. Let me know if you can help. Remember to wear old clothes that day.

3. Details for the Boardwalk party are in your envelope. Mrs Bird is organizing drivers for this event. She'll be calling to confirm if you have indicated you can drive on June 5.

4. This week we will continue to work on math, geography, social studies plays, and reading activities that give students the opportunity to use the skills they have mastered this year.

5. Reminder! Please have your student bring back the social studies CD-ROM so I can return your deposit check.

6. Remember, next Wednesday, June 4 is NOT RESTRUCTURED.

Homework:
1. Read nightly for 30-40 minutes. AR point update on Friday.

2. Finish work not completed in class: reading TIME covers, practice plays, Paddle to the Sea writing, etc.

Week of May 19-23, 2008

Hello,

Open House is this Thursday, May 22 at 6:30. I hope you will visit the classroom with your family to see all of the wonderful work we've done this year. The walls and tables are full.

And don't forget the 5th Grade Spaghetti Dinner before Open House. This is a Science camp fund-raiser for our students who will be in 6th grade next year. The flyer went home last week with all the details. If you have any questions, please call the office.

Students will need to have a WHITE T SHIRT by Friday, May 30. The shirt does NOT need to be new and it can be a shirt with writing on it. Everyone going on the Boardwalk end-of-the year trip wears their tie dyed shirt. Students not going can also tie dye a shirt.

The students love making their shirt, wearing their shirt, and it makes it easier for teachers and parents to identify our children at the Boardwalk. We could also use some wire hangers and parents to help on Monday, June 2 the day we will tie dye. Not sure of the time on the 2nd, but we usually get it done in an hour.

This week in ROOM 10 and other important information:
1. Math in the Real World continues with throwing a party and going on a shopping spree, paying for everything by writing checks.. of course.

3. Students are taking their writing from last week home to be typed. This TIME magazine article is due on Tuesday, May 20.

4. This week students will do the 3rd DISTRICT WRITING ASSESSMENT. This is done in class over 3 days folllowing the five step writing process.

5. On Wednesday, groups will teach the class a lesson from Chapter 9 in social studies. Most of the preparation was done in class, but they should practice the night before!!

6. This week we will begin a science unit called "TOO GOOD FOR DRUGS".

7. We'll be starting our memory books this week. Some students still need to bring in fabric and the $5.00 to cover the cost of supplies.

8. Next week's envelope will have all the details for the Boardwalk trip.

9. Remember, NO SCHOOL next Monday, May 26.

10. Please have your student bring back the social studies CD-ROM so I can return your deposit check.

HOMEWORK:
