Hello,
Welcome back ! I hope you had a great week of family, fun, a chocolate bunny or two, and a break from homework.
In your envelope you'll find information about the end-of-the-year party at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk on June 5. I'm hoping you'll be able to join us for this fun day. If you or your student will need to purchase a wristband for our day at the Boardwalk, please return the form with your money by April 16. Checks need to be made out to Rio Del Mar Parent Alliance. Thanks so much! And remember, if your student has an ANNUAL PASS they DO NOT need to purchase a day pass. They just need to bring it with them on June 5. I'll be sending more information about this day as we get closer to going.

WEEK OF MARCH 17-20, 2008
Hello,
Our field trip to the courthouse was, as many students mentioned, the BEST! Everyone was prepared to present the case and anxious to hear the verdict. I congratulate the class for a job well done. Last Friday Sara Clarenback come to the classroom to tie up lose ends and answer questions. She also gave the children high praise. We were extremely fortunate to have her as our coach and legal advisor.

3. No new spelling or grammar this week. Literacy will center around the the book we will begin to read. My Brother Sam is Dead is an above grade level book that fits perfectly with social studies. The plot will generate questions to be discussed in class. Vocabulary and comprehension questions will be completed for homework.
4. President presentations continue on Monday and Tuesday.
5. Monday and Tuesday we will review the study guide for the Chapter 7 social studies test on Wednesday.
6. Wednesday we'll see the 1st grade play. This is always a class favorite. They remember when.....

Friday begins the Spring recess. Enjoy the holiday and the time for "R and R". Hopefully, all those nasty colds and other assorted bugs that have hung around all too long will be gone when school resumes on March 31!!! Just a reminder and hint, students should be reading during the vacation!! Many students have a third trimester goal to " pump up" those AR POINTS, not to mention the joy of reading when the nights are not filled with homework.
Best regards,
Melanie Jaynes
