Hello,
Welcome back to a regular week of school. I hope your Thanksgiving holiday was festive and memorable.
WHAT'S HAPPENING THIS WEEK:
1. Tuesday is our field trip to NASA. EVERYONE needs to bring a sack lunch. We'll be leaving school as soon as I take attendance. Parents, if you are driving, remember to bring your license. I'll have directions, etc. for you on Tuesday.
2. News Teams 1 and 2 will present the news on Friday.
3. Leadership speeches are due on Friday. Election results will be 12/7.
4. This week students will begin to select the 2 poems they will memorize and recite at the Poetry Cafe on Dec. 13. All students need to bring in a cup and saucer or a plate and mug to make the cafe a little more authentic. Also, our room moms will be calling for donations of cookies and large cans or hot chocolate mix. Let them know if you can help.
5. We'll begin reading Sign of the Beaver. Authored by Elizabeth Spear, it is historical fiction and a perfect fit to the social studies curriculum.

Hello,
We ended last week with a pizza party to CELEBRATE our SUCCESS in READING. With great test scores on the theme test, I say "job well done" to the hard working students in room 10! Thanks to the Gearing family for getting the pizza, hot and delicious, from their restaurant in Gilroy.
This week students will present the diorama they created for their historical book report. There was quite a buzz in the room as students brought in their projects last week. Everyone has been assigned a date. I look forward to seeing all that creativity and hearing about their books.
Our next book report is always everyone's favorite. Together we will be "lighting" our interest to the wonderful world of poetry when we turn our classroom into the "Poetry Cafe" on Dec. 13. The open mike is for everyone...including parents. You'll hear some great poems and enjoy cookies and hot chocolate. More about this when we return from Thanksgiving.
THIS WEEK:
1. Science assembly on Thursday, "Fun with Physics"
2. Chapter 3 social studies test on Friday.
3. Report cards go home on Friday

Best regards,
Melanie Jaynes
